1590 Main Street West Residential Apartment Living
1590 Main Street West is an apartment building that supports up to 33 individuals with developmental disabilities. The building is comprised of 11- 3 bedroom apartments. Individuals with developmental disabilities pay their own rent, living in their own space and receive staff supports based on their goals and needs. The support we provide varies depending on the individual and can be from 24-hour care to just a few hours per week for budgeting or meal-planning. The building offers laundry facilities, underground parking, security monitoring and is wheelchair accessible on the main floor.
Supported Independent Living
The Salvation Army Lawson Ministries also provides minimal supports to people living in their own apartments in Hamilton. Supports usually focus on developing skills for greater independence and safety. Staff assists with banking/budgeting, meal planning/cooking, advocacy and we accompany people for medical appointments when necessary.
Lodging Home Supports
In conjunction with the lodging home team, Lawson Ministries’ staff provide tailored supports according to the needs of each resident. Residents must have a developmental disability to qualify for enhanced supports. The hours are flexible and focus on enhancing the existing supports for the individual during the day, evenings, weekends and holidays. Support includes medical appointments, staff training, recreational programming and activities of daily living.
Lawson Ministries Hamilton has provided supports to people with combined developmental disability and psychiatric diagnosis such as bi-polar disorder and early childhood trauma, Dual-Diagnosis. We also support people with challenging and aggressive behaviors. Environment can often play a factor in the types of behavior an individual may present. This is evident in the positive behavioral changes that have occurred by relocating certain individuals to more appropriate settings. We encourage and support people to maintain close family contacts.
Lawson Ministries also provides therapeutic support utilizing high staffing levels, behavior regimens developed in consultation with Hamilton Brant Behavior Services and other community professionals, and monitors prescribed medication. Linkages are established with other community agencies for day programs, joint initiatives, as well as the sharing of training and other services. The Salvation Army Lawson Ministries promotes an environment based on sound moral values, while respecting the religious and personal beliefs of each person.
