The Salvation Army Lawson Ministries Hamilton is a network of people that strives to provide support and social inclusion to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
We accomplish this by establishing and maintaining residential and day program services in supportive, caring environments that address individual needs.
The S.A.F.E. hub was developed by The Salvation Army Lawson Ministries in 2020 after it was identified there was a gap in services focused on sexuality, abuse prevention, parenting and education for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). It was developed in collaboration with community partners, they have assisted in program development in order to meet the needs of individuals with IDD. In 2021 the S.A.F.E. hub was a successful recipient of the Salvation Army Innovations Grant, this grant was used to focus on providing educational opportunities. In 2023 the SAFE hub received a second innovations grant to support the continuation and growth of the S.A.F.E hub program with an emphasis on service users developing social connections.
Some of the programs developed thus far include but are not limited to; the Healthy Relationship groups, Internet Safety Part 1 (general internet safety knowledge) and Part 2 (social media and online dating), Fast friends (generate opportunities for social connection). Upcoming programming plans for 2024 will focus on human trafficking, parenting and sexual health.

Last week was the first Camp S’mores & Snores in person at Jackson’s Point since 2019! The 4 year wait certainly contributed to a great deal of excitement, and we can confidently say that each camper had the time of their lives throughout the week!
We want to send a huge shout out to all the staff members who took a chance and stepped out of their comfort zone to make this magical week happen.
Camp S’mores & Snores wouldn’t exist without the amazing campers who came out and brought such wonderful energy to every moment of the week! Believe us when we say that all of the work was worth it when we saw the sheer joy and love of adventure in each participant.
Our new On My Way project pairs the developmentally disabled individuals we support with Hamilton artists who help them create a shareable expression of their needs and goals. For David, that means collaborating with artist and author to create a written and graphic narrative that will be printed for his caregivers and loved ones to have and refer to. Using art as a means of communication helps David on his way to a more fulfilling life! Stay tuned for more On My Way collaborations and stories throughout 2024!.
